Century-Old Aristocratic Bell-Metal Banquet Platter with 5 Threaded Perimeter Bowls
Ingenious 18-inch bell-metal banquet platter with 5 precision-threaded detachable katoris (Dia 18 in / 45 cm, Wt ~3.2 kg)
Century-old authentic traditional bronze banquet platter featuring five integrated, perimeter-screwed companion bowls (Jwain Bhet Pancha-Bati Kansa Thala), handcrafted from heavy bell metal in Odisha. Specially commissioned by aristocratic and affluent households to entertain the newlywed son-in-law on his inaugural feast (Jwain Bhet) at the bride's ancestral home. Measures 18 inches (45 cm) in diameter with a deep raised lip and concentric lathe engravings. Arranged along the upper rim are five sturdy bronze bowls (katoris with flared and fluted rims) anchored via authentic threaded screw mounts, designed to present a five-course spread of dal, curries, payas (kheer), chutney, and ghee without tipping or cluttering the dining surface. An ingenious, precious, and extinct masterpiece of traditional Indian culinary metalcraft.
