Double-Century-Old Deeply Engraved Peacock-Form Brass Kerosene Lamp (Mayura Dibi)
Double-century-old museum heirloom brass oil lamp featuring sculpted peacock head spout, flared plumage tail, fine geometric chased shoulder, and dual-loop handle (Diameter 4.5 inches / 11 cm)
Double-century-old (~200 years, circa early 19th century) highly prized, uncommon, and precious authentic brass kerosene and oil lamp, known in classical Odisha metalcraft as "Mayura Dibi" (or Mayura Deepa). Cast in solid antique brass with an extraordinary zoomorphic and architectural silhouette. The front spout is sculpted into an arched, crested peacock (Mayura) neck and head with open beak wick/pour aperture, while the opposing rear terminus features an expansive, horizontal fan-shaped peacock plumage tail. The circular domed font reservoir is deeply hand-chased with concentric braided rope bands encircling geometric diamond-and-hatched relief medallions. Surmounting the body is a tall, horizontally ring-turned columnar burner collar fitted with bilateral balance winglets and an upper wick nozzle. Equipped with a sturdy dual-ring figure-eight finger carrying loop on the side, and raised on a turned circular footed pedestal base. Preserved in remarkable museum condition with deep antique dark olive-grey patination and original hand-chased detailing. Diameter: 4.5 inches (11 cm). An exceptionally rare, sacred, and aristocratic illumination masterpiece from the historic Gajapati/Maratha era.
